What The Democratic Loss in Georgia Means For The Midterms

Defeat is an orphan. Summing up the left's response to its deflating loss in a special congressional election in the Atlanta suburbs were two reactions: (1) Jim Dean , chairman of the progressive activist group Democracy For America, in a statement: "Defeating Republicans in districts that they have traditionally held requires doing something drastically different than establishment Democrats have done before — specifically, running on a bold progressive vision and investing heavily in direct...

When Resisting Trump, Let’s All Try To Do Better

Rep. Bill McCamley (D-New Mexico House District 33)

Commentary: For the last five months I’ve woken up furious every morning as the news comes on describing Donald Trump’s failures. Taking basic health care away from millions. Insulting our nation’s friends while siding with dictators. Ripping immigrant families apart for no reason. Discriminating against people for how they pray. His tweets. Words fail to describe how outraged and embarrassed I am by this. Seriously.

It leaves me and many others wanting to fight. But to do it effectively, we need to do it right. What does that mean?

Trade As A Geopolitical Tool

Jun 20, 2017
Santa Teresa, New Mexico

Commentary: Trade is a multi-faceted concept. At its most basic level, it consists of two or more companies from different countries engaging in an agreement to exchange products or services for compensation. Logistics companies then move the products to their final destination. These transactions occur every minute of the day around the world. At a more macro level, trade is a geopolitical tool that is used as part of a government’s diplomatic strategy to further its interests in strategic locations.

Las Cruces Mayor Calls On Congressman To Support Renewable Energy

Jun 20, 2017
Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima

Commentary: Las Cruces – ProgressNow New Mexico EF (501c3) has released a video ad featuring City of Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima that calls on Rep.

Commentary: City officials should include the initiative process among the city charter amendments the Las Cruces City Council will consider shortly.

In 2014, the process of raising the minimum wage satisfied no one. Business leaders complained that proponents were really motivated by the political desire to get the issue on the ballot. Proponents said businessfolks ignored the issue for months, then requested “dialogue” just for delay. Then the council flouted the City Charter. The Charter was not specific on what happened next, and councilors could ignore it with impunity.

It's Time For America To Think Big Again

Jun 18, 2017

Commentary:  For a moment, let’s stop obsessing about the polarizing news story of the day and widen our focus a bit with something to ponder. When did America stop dreaming big? What happened to our grand and great ideas and national goals? When did we give up our ability to dream large?

What is our majestic hope or project for tomorrow? What about for ourselves personally? Is it getting that latest and flashiest smartphone? Is it waiting for our internet speed to get faster so we can spend even more time on our devices?
