In its decades-old tradition, the Las Cruces High School Showcase Band has begun the 30th annual sale of holiday luminarias. Sales will continue through Tuesday, December 12, 2017. The luminaria fundraiser is the LCHS Showcase Band Parents Association’s biggest fundraiser during the year. Greg Groves, LCHS Band Parents Association luminaria coordinator, said in addition to selling luminarias throughout the community, this year they are also supplying holiday luminarias for NMSU’s Noche de Luminaria and the town of Mesilla. Luminarias can be purchased through any band student or online at tinyurl.com/LCHS-Luminaria. The online order form has prices, beginning with a smallest order of 36 luminarias, up to orders for several hundred. Custom luminaria sales are being taken for private events or other celebrations, Mr.Groves said. Residential delivery dates are as follows: Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17. Luminarias are also available for pick-up at the school band room during the delivery weekend. Exact day of delivery is only available for orders of 500 luminarias or more or by special arrangement. Mr. Groves said those who deliver the bags are not responsible for lighting or disposing of the luminarias, nor will they be responsible for replacing luminaria damaged due to vandalism or weather. This fundraiser supports not only the marching band but also the concert bands, jazz bands, color guard and other music programs. Mr. Groves said the funds raised also provide additional music education opportunities including travel, special concerts, and hiring distinguished and professional visitors. — For more information, contact LCHS.Luminaria@gmail.com.
