Juarez Violence Discussed in El Paso

Las Cruces, NM – More than 500 people have been murdered in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico since the beginning of the year, and sources say more than 1800 killings related to the drug trade have occurred across Mexico in 2008. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, the El Paso Press Club held a forum over the weekend to discuss the serious issues affecting Mexico and how they relate to the United States.

State Prepares to Implement Real ID

Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico is currently implementing Real I.D. measures approved in 2005. The real id act requires states to issue driver's licenses that meet specific requirements as an effort to fight terrorism and reduce fraud. The state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union says the law will not protect Americans and will only create new problems.

Local Leaders Voice Opposition to Pearce Authored Bill

Las Cruces, NM – This afternoon a number of local leaders held a press conference to voice their opposition to a house bill introduced last week by Congressman Steve Pearce. The bill is called the "Dona Ana County Planned Growth, Open Space, and Rangeland Preservation Act of 2008". However, as KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, critics of the bill say it's an assault on the county's wilderness, and will weaken environmental protections granted to places like the Organ Mountains.

Heat Wave could be Dangerous to Residents and Pets

Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico Department of Health Region Five Health Ffficer Eugene Marciniak, says there are several groups of people who are most vulnerable to heat related complications including children, the elderly and residents with mental health disorders.

The symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke include heavy sweating, often pale skin, muscle cramps, dizziness and fatigue.
