Las Cruces, NM – More than 500 people have been murdered in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico since the beginning of the year, and sources say more than 1800 killings related to the drug trade have occurred across Mexico in 2008. The real id act requires states to issue driver's licenses that meet specific requirements as an effort to fight terrorism and reduce fraud. The state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union says the law will not protect Americans and will only create new problems.

Las Cruces, NM – Fire officials expect to extinguish a lightning sparked fire burning thirty-six miles northwest of Carlsbad by the end of the week. KRWG' s Marco Grajeda reports that as of this morning the fire was sixty-five percent contained.

Las Cruces, NM – This afternoon a number of local leaders held a press conference to voice their opposition to a house bill introduced last week by Congressman Steve Pearce. The bill is called the "Dona Ana County Planned Growth, Open Space, and Rangeland Preservation Act of 2008". However, as KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, critics of the bill say it's an assault on the county's wilderness, and will weaken environmental protections granted to places like the Organ Mountains.

Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico Department of Health Region Five Health Ffficer Eugene Marciniak, says there are several groups of people who are most vulnerable to heat related complications including children, the elderly and residents with mental health disorders.

The symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke include heavy sweating, often pale skin, muscle cramps, dizziness and fatigue.
