Las Cruces, NM – Last week, a pregrant woman died while in the custody of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE. Rosa Contreras Dominguez was being held at he ICE processing center in El Paso awaiting deportation due to a drug trafficking conviction. As KRWG's Whitney Jones reports, Dominguez was said to have a history of blood clots.
Las Cruces, NM – The United States section of the International Boundary and Water Commission met Thursday in El Paso, Texas to discuss plans to improve Dona Ana County's levee system. If the levees are improved residents living along the Federal Emergency Management Agency's revised floodplain maps could save money on flood insurance. As KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, the levee project's head engineer says what the commission needs now is funding.
Las Cruces, NM – During last year's torrential flooding in El Paso, a major concern for area residents was a water dam in the neighboring city of Juarez, which threatened to burst and inundate the city's downtown region. Las Cruces, NM – Monday, United States Representative Steve Pearce invited members of the community to discuss the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance's Citizen's Proposal to designate some public lands as wilderness areas. Las Cruces, NM – The state of New Mexico is getting a new area code beginning October 7th. last year the Public Regulation Commission voted last year to add the 5-7-5 area code because New Mexico is running out of telephone numbers. Las Cruces, NM – There is growing concern New Mexico could become the country's human trafficking gateway because every other state on the US/ Mexico border has or is considering a law prohibiting human trafficking.
