Living with HIV - Jesse's Story

Las Cruces – According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HIV is a serious threat to the Hispanic community. The majority of men are infected through homosexual contact while women catch the virus through heterosexual contact. Hispanics now account for 19% of the AIDS cases diagnosed in 2005. KRWG's Lily Olivas brings us a story of one Hispanic man living with HIV and the struggles and stigma he and his wife have faced since his diagnosis.

County Publicly Censures Schoonover

Las Cruces, NM – The Dona Ana County Commissioners publicly censured County Treasurer Jim Schoonover today over allegations the he and Deputy County Treasurer Jerry Wheeler used County employees and property to benefit the local Elks Lodge. The County's internal audit committee discovered the charges which were discussed during the commissions January 9th meeting. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, Schoonover was scheduled to make his rebuttal today, but only his attorney spoke.

Representatives from the NMSU branch of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal employees are upset with the university not negotiating with them on a new contract.

Expert: U.S. Should Protect Peaceful Space Uses

The United States launched a protest at this signal of Chinese ability to knock out satellites- including American Global Positioning Systems and spy equipment. LCPS District 5 Seat Has Two New Challengers

Las Cruces, NM – One of the two Las Cruces Public School Board seats being contested in this year's election is in District 5, which represents much of the Eastern side of the city from I-25 North of Lohman Avenue. The seat is currently held by Board President Dr. Sharon Wooden.

LCPS District 4 Seat To Be Decided February 6th

Las Cruces, NM – Late last year John Schwebke announced he would not seek another term for the District 4 seat on the Las Cruces Public Schools Board. The District covers some of the Northern areas of the city West of I-25. News Brief: NM Senate Bill 204 in Process

Las Cruces, New Mexico – If current legislation proposed in Santa Fe passes, New Mexico State University might get tax breaks to host more live events in the future. State Senator Leonard Lee Rawson is sponsoring senate bill 204, which would eliminate the gross receipts tax currently charged for hosting events at the Pan American Center. Rawson says the bill would not remove the tax from NMSU athletic events.
