Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico Economic Development Secretary, Rick Homans says he expects to break ground at Spaceport America by this time next year. Homans was in Las Cruces today to answer questions from three county commissions and their residents about the proposed spaceport. Dona Ana, Otero, and Sierra county commissioners were all on hand along with a number of area residents and representatives. 1/10/07 – An informational public meeting was held in Las Cruces city hall yesterday/Tuesday to clear up confusion regarding the city's franchise agreement with El Paso Electric. In June, the electric utility company asked the Public Regulation Commission for an 18% rate increase for the citizens of Las Cruces. as KRWG's Amanda Grube reports, the city is planning an intervention with the PRC to fight the rate increase.

If the merger goes through, the two would create the world's largest publicly traded copper company. 12/15/06 – THIS FRIDAY, THE BOARD OF REGENTS MET AT NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY, ADOPTING A NEW MASTER PLAN FOR NMSU CAMPUSES. THIS NEW PLAN UPDATES ONE THAT WAS ORIGINALLY ADOPTED IN 1990 AND OUTLINES THE PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT AND LAND USE. THIS INCLUDES INFRASTRUCTURE, BUILDINGS AND TRANSPORTATION. WHILE THE BOARD ADOPTED THE NEW PLAN, NMSU SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT BEN WOODS SAYS NOTHING IS CONCRETE.
