Otero County Residents Approve Bond Issue

Las Cruces, New Mexico – Tuesday, Otero County voters approved a 5-million dollar bond to benefit New Mexico State University-Alamogordo campus. A large portion of the money from the bonds will go towards a proposed new trade program at the University.

Las Cruces Voters to Weigh in on Three-mil Levy for Schools Tuesday

Las Cruces, NM – Voters within the Las Cruces Public Schools District will have a chance Tuesday to vote on a three-mil levy intended to help the district restructure its bond debt. Law Firm Seeks Help from Mexico in Civil Lawsuit

Las Cruces, NM – Gilardi and Co, LLC, a law firm based out of San Rafael, California, is preparing a civil lawsuit against the Dona Ana County Adult and Juvenile Detention Centers. The suit claims several inmates many of whom were Mexican nationals were subjected to illegal strip searches. As KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, in an effort to find possible victims, the firm has asked the Mexican Government for help.

Military Base Planning Commission Meets in Las Cruces

Las Cruces, NM – The New Mexico Military Base Planning Commission, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Dianne Denish, held its first meeting of the year today in Las Cruces. The fourteen member board was first created in response to an announcement by the Department of Defense that it planned to cut base capacity nationwide, in order to save money. Mesilla Marshal Stays for Now

Las Cruces, NM – Monday evening, the Town of Mesilla's Board of Trustees voted to keep Marshal Angelo Vega at his current position for the time being. Two weeks ago, Mayor Michael Cadena dismissed Vega, amid controversy, just shy of his one year anniversary. That same week, Vega was placed on indefinite paid administrative leave, pending a final decision by the board. KRWG's Marco Grajeda was at yesteday's meeting and has this report.

Spring Break: Mexico No Longer the Favorite Destination

Las Cruces, NM – New Mexico State University students are preparing for Spring Break which begins Thursday. For many university students the time of will mean a temporary escape from Las Cruces the preferred destination usually is Mexico. However, as KRWG's Callie French reports, there is a definite decline in NMSU spring breakers traveling south of the border this year due to increased reports in increased drug violence.

NMSU Bookstore May Be Ousted

Las Cruces, NM – At the end of February, New Mexico State University released a Request for Proposal, or RFP, asking for offers from companies interested in managing and operating the bookstore on campus--essentially outsourcing it. As KRWG's, Whitney Jones reports, several students and staff at the university worry about how saying so long to NMSU's bookstore will affect the campus.
