Las Cruces, NM – Las Cruces City Hall was filled to capacity Monday night, as a standing room only crowd awaited the decision on the proposed annexation of land for the Vista Rancho Subdivision. New Area Code Dividing New Mexicans

Las Cruces, NM – A consistent population growth of around twenty percent along with an increase in new telephone numbers is forcing New Mexico to adopt a new area code, in order to cope with the additional lines. Now, Public Regulation Commissioners are visiting constituents, to figure out who will get the new 575 area code. As KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, a proposed geographic split may divide New Mexicans, and PRC commissioner Shirley Baca says the southern half could have to make the change.

News Brief: Dona Ana Interchange Public Meeting

Dona Ana, NM – Area residents will have a chance to ask questions and comment on construction work being done on interstate 25 near the Dona Ana interchange during a public meeting 6 p.m. Tuesday at Dona Ana Elementary school.

New Mexico Department of Transportation Project Manager Gilbert Clemente says the meeting will allow the public to preview what bridge construction remains.

Fair Housing Agency Opens Las Cruces Office

Las Cruces – On Thursday, the Border Fair Housing and Economic Justice Center organization, together with representatives from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, announced the opening of its new office in Las Cruces.

The agency first opened its doors in El Paso in 2004. Since then, they have fought for fair housing and fair lending in their community.

Senate Approves Homeland Security Bill

Las Cruces, NM – As world leaders are tuned to the rising tension in the Middle East the U.S. Senate approved its version of the 2007 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill. It includes over 32-billion dollars in spending for the Department of Homeland Security. As KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, that's 1.4 billion dollars more than last year.

City Of Las Cruces Invites Track Lovers Of All Ages To Compete

Las Cruces, NM – Around 15 boys and girls of all ages and their families braved 100-degree heat for a track meet at the Field of Dreams this week. Rockets Blast Off At NMSU

Las Cruces, NM – Soda bottles soared and kids cheered Friday as they spent an afternoon launching homemade rockets at New Mexico State University. Dona Ana County Commissioners Oppose Forced Annexation
