Women Pilots Soar Into New Mexico

Las Cruces – Women pilots competing in the 30th Annual Air Race Classic stopped at the Santa Teresa Airport Tuesday morning. They'll be flying over 2500 miles over the next four days to reach their final destination: Menominee, Michigan.

As KRWG's Lily Olivas reports, the Santa Teresa airport was the first of many stops for the women flying this race.

Las Cruces, NM – Over seventy southern New Mexico residents showed up Saturday morning to set sail down the Rio Grande on miniature home made yachts. As KRWG's Whitney Jones reports, residents braved the morning sun to watch pirate ships and inflatable animals raft the rio.

Las Cruces – The Las Cruces Public School District search for a new superintendent officially came to an end at Tuesday night's school board meeting. As KRWG's Lily Olivas reports, the school board approved a contract between Sonia Diaz and the school district early on in the meeting.

Cannon Air Force Base To Host Air Force Special Operations Assets and Pesonnel

Las Cruces, NM – The United States Defense Department decided today that Cannon Air Force Base in CLovis, New Mexico will play host to Air Force Special Operations assets and personnel.

As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports the news was welcomed by New Mexico politicians who feared the base would be closed under the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Plan.

NMSU officials discuss future of university layout

Las Cruces – New Mexico State University architects have been working on a master plan that will improve the physical layout and design of the university over the next 20 years.

This week, architects presented their master plan to the public through a series of workshops. As KRWG's Lily Olivas reports, the plan includes buildings that will create a "sense of arrival" off Jordan street for new students and their parents.

Country CLub Stockholders to Vote on Land Swap Tonight

Las Cruces, NM – Tonight at six o'clock stockholders of the Las Cruces Country Club will vote on whether or not to swap 110 acres of land with Las Cruces developer Phil Philippou. In exchange the stockholders would receive another Country Club on the East Mesa. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports many area residents are concerned the Philipou will develop the green space into a commercial or residential area.
