213 Citations Issued In Las Cruces Traffic Enforcement Effort

Officers from Las Cruces Police, New Mexico State University Police, New Mexico State Police and the New Mexico Motor Transportation Department combined to issue 213 citations and make three arrests today during a four hour traffic operation held along El Paseo Road.

Of the 213 citations, 49 went to drivers who made an improper turn. Many improper turns occur when a driver fails to maintain the immediate first lane of traffic after a turn.

Another 37 citations went to drivers who were using a mobile phone while operating a motor vehicle and 37 went to motorists who were not properly using a seat belt. Officers issued 25 citations for no insurance, 14 for not having a valid driver’s license and 12 for not providing proof of registration.

The remaining citations were issued for various traffic infractions. Two motorists were arrested for driving on suspended driver’s licenses and one person was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Wednesday’s traffic operation was held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. along El Paseo Road. The Las Cruces Police Department, along with other law enforcement agencies, plan additional traffic enforcement operations in the near future.
