27-Hour I-10 Closure Sunday In El Paso

Crews will close I-10 Eastbound at North Mesa Street (SH 20) on Sunday, November 12. The closure is necessary to allow crews to pour the concrete bridge deck onto the all-new I-10 Eastbound overpass.

For much of the closure’s duration, it will appear as if no work is taking place, but in fact, the fresh concrete will be curing (drying and hardening) and must be allowed to cure undisturbed by the vibrations caused by adjacent I-10 Eastbound traffic.

During the pour, North Mesa Street (SH 20) under the I-10 overpass will be closed in both directions. Crews plan to open North Mesa Street (SH 20) as soon as they are finished pouring the bridge deck overhead.

By 6 am on Nov. 13, I-10’s center median will be re-opened to eastbound traffic. The all-new eastbound overpass structure will still be several months away from opening to traffic.

On Nov. 12, I-10 eastbound traffic should avoid the North Mesa intersection by using alternate routes, such as Transmountain (Loop 375). Motorists who cannot avoid the intersection should follow the detour signs in place.
