Las Cruces – Southern New Mexico authorities say a 4-year-old girl has drowned at Elephant Butte Lake. KOB-TV reports the girl was reported missing from the Lion's Beach area around 3:40 p.m. Sunday.
Volunteers formed a chain and walked through the water until they found the girl unconscious underwater.
Sierra County Sheriff's Department officials say that emergency workers performed CPR on the child and she was eventually rushed to a nearby hospital. However, she could not be revived.
The girl was visiting the lake with her aunt and uncle.
Investigators say her parents are from the El Paso - Juarez area.
The girl's identity has not been released.
