ABQ Schools Changing Social Media Policy

Former Supt. Winston Brooks, Albuquerque Public Schools

Albuquerque's public school district is retooling its social media policy.

The effort comes on the heels of a recent flap involving Superintendent Winston Brooks but KRQE-TV reports that the district says the overhaul has been in the making for a long time.

Brooks recently apologized for Twitter posts that included comparing the state education secretary to farm animals.

The district's current social media policy posted online is brief, saying employees should be mindful of their posts even if they're not working and off district property.

A task force is being formed to create a more detailed policy.

Communications Executive Director Monica Armenta says the district hasn't been able to keep up with changes resulting from social media.
