Academy Graduates Seven Volunteer Firefighters

The Doña Ana County Fire and Emergency Services Department will graduate seven new volunteer firefighters during a commencement ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012 in the Commissioners Chambers of the Doña Ana County Government Center at 845 N. Motel Blvd., in Las Cruces.

This is the fifth class to graduate from the Doña Ana County Firefighter Academy since its inception in 2010. Prior to that, cadets had to travel out of the county to receive training.

The academy is held over seven consecutive weekends and covers entry-level firefighter training and practical skills, culminating with several live structural fire exercises and a written exam.

The graduating cadets of Academy 5 are: Ricardo Pacheco, Jr., Juan Diaz, Jr., Alan Ginder, Jonathan Pinney, Benjamin Diamond, Gilbert Carrillo and Daniel Delgado. They will be assigned to the Anthony, La Union and Santa Teresa fire districts.

Applications are always accepted for anyone interested in joining the next volunteer firefighter academy. Each candidate must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license. Applications are available at the Doña Ana County Fire Marshal’s Office at 845 N. Motel Blvd., in Las Cruces, or at any Doña Ana County fire station.
