Hatch – A man out hunting with his friend outside Hatch is recovering from a gunshot wound after accidentally shooting himself.
The Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department says the 24-year-old was hunting small game in the desert on Sunday afternoon when he accidentally shot himself in the abdomen. The man's companion drove him to a gas station and called for help.
The man was conscious and talking when authorities arrived. He was flown to a hospital in El Paso for treatment.
No charges are expected and alcohol is not believed to have played a role in the incident.
The man lives in Hatch. His identity was not released.
