Albuquerque – American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico says it will file an injunction against the University of New Mexico to allow members of "(Un)occupy Albuquerque" movement to continue protesting in a university park.
The Daily Lobo reports (http://bit.ly/sEZDE7 ) that attorney Larry Kronen said he is working with the ACLU to get the injunction ready. He said protesters do not need a permit to exercise First Amendment rights, even though UNM policy says they do.
The move comes after UNM evicted protesters off a four-week old makeshift campsite over safety concerns. Around two dozen protesters were arrested Tuesday and at least another protester was arrested Wednesday for refusing to leave Yale Park.
Protesters held their nightly general assembly meeting Wednesday across the street.
