Alamogordo Looks To Solar Power

By KRWG News

Alamogordo – Alamogordo officials are looking to the sun for power.

Assistant City Manager Mark Threadgill says Alamogordo has received several unsolicited proposals to put in solar for powering the wastewater treatment plant.

The Alamogordo Daily News reports the deals offered have specified there will be no up-front costs to the city as long as the city signs a power purchase agreement.

Threadgill says the market is attractive right now for companies to come in and set up solar, selling electricity to entities like the city and getting the Renewable Energy Credits for the power generated.

Companies will apply to Public Service of New Mexico for the energy credits. The solar companies can also qualify for state and federal tax incentives by doing such projects.
