Albuquerque Man Sentenced To Prison In Mail Theft Case

An Albuquerque man who admitted stealing mail from mailboxes and then stealing a victim's identity for fraudulent purposes has been sentenced to over three years in prison.

A federal judge on Wednesday sentenced 28-year-old Jeremy Boucher to 39 months in prison followed by three years of supervised probation.

Boucher also was ordered to pay restitution to victims. He pleaded guilty March 27 to a four-count indictment charging him with mail theft, bank fraud and identity theft.

Postal Service inspectors and Albuquerque police found large amounts of stolen mail, including financial documents, during a Nov. 14 search of Boucher's residence.

Court documents said Boucher opened a bank account in a victim's name and also had a credit card in that person's name.
