Two members of the Albuquerque City Council say they want the city to consider changing how it oversees the Police Department.
Councilors Dan Lewis and Don Harris are proposing a study to consider ways to revamp the existing system under which a commission and an office handle citizens' complaints against police officers.
The Albuquerque Journal reports that activists and relatives of people shot by police question the effectiveness of the Police Oversight Commission.
The department is currently the subject of a federal civil rights investigation.
