Albuquerque Police Chief Ripped For Interview Comments

Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz is drawing fire for comments he made when asked during a television news interview about officers' extramarital affairs --behavior that figured in a former officer's recent trial.

Interviewed by KOB-TV before his retirement next week, Schultz said that such behavior is a concern but also said "nature's at play" in a department with young men and women in good shape.

City Council President Dan Lewis said Schultz said Schultz should have said that adultery is not OK, Mayoral candidate Pete Dinelli called Schultz's comments disgusting.

Schultz told the Albuquerque Journal that he doesn't condone inappropriate behavior and was talking about challenges that police departments face.

Officers' affairs figured in testimony in the trial of Levi Chavez. He was acquitted of murdering his wife.
