Albuquerque Police Earns Marks For New Unit Work
Homeland Security Investigations is honoring Albuquerque police for their work in a new task force aimed at finding missing and abducted children.
Kevin Abar, assistant special agent in charge of HSI in New Mexico, is scheduled Thursday to honor seven Albuquerque members of the Sexual Predator and Exploitation Enforcement Detail, or SPEED.
Abar says the unit works as a child abduction response team in parts of New Mexico.
In addition, the new task force investigates state and federal crimes related to the sexual exploitation of children. Officials say SPEED allows the agencies to combine resources to quickly investigate abduction cases.
Abar says the task force created in February so far has result in around 40 arrests.
