Albuquerque Police Protest

Protesters advocating for reforms within the Albuquerque Police Department put the embattled police chief "on trial" during a rally.

Dozens of protesters, including some who brought children, marched Saturday from Roosevelt Park with signs and a makeshift coffin inscribed with names of people killed by Albuquerque officers in recent years.

The protesters marched peacefully before returning to the park to continue the rally.

Demonstrators say the march aims to push for drastic changes within the Albuquerque Police Department following a harsh U.S. Justice Department report over the agency's use of force.

Police also are under scrutiny over 40 police shootings — 26 of them fatal — since 2010.

Police Chief Gorden Eden says officers are on call in case they are needed at the protest.
