Albuquerque police say a girl has been killed and that a suspect is in custody.
Officer Tanner Tixier says there is no further threat to the community and that no additional information is being released at this time.
Police said earlier that officers dispatched Wednesday morning to an apartment complex because of a disturbance call found an altercation that resulted in what police called "serious injuries" to some of those involved.
Tixier didn't specify the victim's age, but the Albuquerque Journal (goo.gl/1Vysvq) reports that a family friend of the girl says she was a 9-year-old.
Amanda Wilson also said officers told her the scene was grisly and that the girl was killed violently.
Wilson said a party was scheduled Wednesday to celebrate the girl's birthday Tuesday.
