Alert Las Cruces Police Officer Discovers House Fire

Las Cruces – An alert Las Cruces Police officer discovered a house on fire this morning in a north Las Cruces neighborhood.

While on patrol, the officer observed fire coming from the roof of a residence in the 3900-block of Elks Dr. Fire crews were immediately notified. The initial arriving fire engine reported smoke coming from the structure and initiated an attack.

Crews ensured that all occupants had evacuated the house and searched for the location of the fire. The fire was concealed in the attic space. Firefighters were able to quickly confine and extinguish the blaze before it could damage the living area.

The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Fire investigators were on scene attempting to determine the cause of the blaze. The damage is estimated at approximately $60,000.

No firefighter injuries were reported at this incident.
