The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Socorro, TX man with driving under the influence and negligent child abuse after deputies discovered the man had a child in the car while allegedly driving drunk.
Just before midnight on Aug. 24, Gustavo Bustamante, 23, was pulled over for speeding near the intersection of Luna Azul and Amparo Road in Chaparral. The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputy reportedly smelled a strong odor of alcohol and noticed Bustamante had a two-year-old boy sitting in the backseat of the car with the boy’s mother.
After administering field sobriety tests, Bustamante was taken to the Anthony substation of the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office for further testing. After it was determined that Bustamante’s blood alcohol content was over the legal limit to drive, he was arrested and transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center.
Bustamante is charged with negligent child abuse, aggravated DWI, and several traffic infractions related to the original stop. He’s being held on a $10,000 surety bond.
