Amidst Crime Crisis, Albuquerque Mayoral Candidate Dan Lewis Hosts 'Shoot Out'

Former DPNM Chair Richard Ellenberg

Commentary: Albuquerque, NM - In a shocking lack of sensitivity for Albuquerque’s crime crisis, Albuquerque mayoral candidate Dan Lewis announced he will be hosting a “shoot out” this month.

“When crime is on everyone’s mind in Albuquerque, it’s sickening to know that Dan Lewis would host a ‘shoot out’. Dan Lewis’ lack of consideration for families who have lost a loved one to gun violence or to folks who don’t feel safe in their communities demonstrates how unprepared he is to tackle the challenges facing New Mexico’s largest city, ” said Democratic Party of New Mexico Chair Richard Ellenberg.

In January, it was reported that Albuquerque saw it’s highest homicide rate in twenty years, and that two thirds of murders in the metro area involved a gun.

Dan Lewis has a history of disregarding the communities concerns on crime when he was absent for a key city council meeting addressing initiatives that will help the city better address crime.
