Antelope Hunting Change Possible
The state Game Commission plans to consider changing how hunters can get licenses to hunt antelope in parts of New Mexico. The commission is to meet Thursday in Rio Rancho to consider proposals that would establish a licensing system for antelope similar to that for deer hunting.
The Game and Fish Department would continue to hold a drawing for licenses to hunt antelope on public lands. However, licenses could be purchased from vendors or the department to hunt on private land in southeastern New Mexico. It would be up to hunters to arrange private land access.
Some sportsmen have complained that current rules allocate too many antelope hunting permits to private landowners.
The commission's meeting will be webcast live and can be accessed at the governor's office web site:http://www.governor.state.nm.us/Webcast.aspx .
