Las Cruces – At approximately 7:31 pm Monday, officers with the NMSU Police Department and the Las Cruces Police Department arrested 22-year old Omi Gutierrez in connection with a drive-by shooting Monday afternoon at the Dona Ana Community College main campus. No one was injured in the incident.

Gutierrez was arrested in the 100 block of W. Gallagher in Las Cruces, and the vehicle involved in the shooting was also recovered from the same location. Police were able to locate Gutierrez thanks to tips called in by members of the public, including one from an individual who saw Gutierrez attempting to hide the car.

Gutierrez, of the 6500 block of Fox Road east of Las Cruces, is being investigated as the possible shooter in an incident where two (2) gunshots were fired in the main parking lot of the Dona Ana Community College at approximately 2:24 pm Monday afternoon. Gutierrez has no known affiliation with NMSU.

Charges and bond information are not available at the time of this release.

NMSU Police would like to thank all of the members of the public who called in with tips throughout the afternoon, including those that ended up leading to Gutierrez arrest. The public participation was critical to the quick resolution of the case.
