Arson Guilty On All Counts

Third Judicial District Attorney

Jeremy Lukas Sanchez, 33, has been found guilty on charges of Aggravated Assault upon a Peace Officer (Deadly Weapon), Arson and Criminal Damage to Property. Including enhancements under the Habitual Offender Act, Mr. Sanchez is facing 30 years incarceration.

 

On May 15, 2014, Mr. Sanchez was arrested and taken into custody after a standoff with Las Cruces Police at the Motel 6 on La Posada Ln. 

 

Officers were dispatched after Sanchez called emergency services and immediately hung up on dispatch.  With the goal of conducting a welfare check, officers located Sanchez’ room however he refused them entry. After repeated attempts to make contact with the occupant officers utilized a Ram against the bolted door. Armed with a knife, Mr. Sanchez barricaded himself in the bathroom and began creating holes in the walls stuffing them with items he had lit on fire. 

 

Following the conviction District Court Judge Fernando Macias ordered a 60-day evaluation to be conducted by the department of corrections.

 

Sentencing is expected within 75 days.
