Las Cruces, NM – ASARCO LLC announced Tuesday that they will permanently close their copper smelter in El Paso, Texas citing a dramatic downturn of the world economy'. As KRWG's Evan Woodward reports, the company had hoped to reopen the 112 year old plant, but faced strong opposition from government officials in El Paso, Juarez and New Mexico.
