Attempted Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested In Las Cruces

  A man suspected of pulling a gun on a 17-year-old boy and demanding personal property has been arrested for the attempted armed robbery.

Bobby Ray Perea, 21, of the 2100 block of Lester Avenue, is charged with one count each of attempting to commit armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and intention child abuse.

Las Cruces Police learned that the 17-year-old boy was walking along Lester Avenueon the afternoon of May 17 when he was approached by two men, one of whom was armed with a silver handgun. The man pointed the handgun at the boy and demanded that he turn over his iPod.

The 17-year-old turned and ran away from the men who gave chase for a short distance. No physical injuries were reported.

Perea was later identified as one of the suspects and was arrested on Thursday, May 23. The second suspect is still outstanding.

Perea was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $10,000.
