LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — A special team of auditors headed by New Mexico State Auditor Hector Balderas is headed to Sunland Park next week.

Balderas says he's committing a robust amount of resources and time to the investigation and compiling a task force of people with "broad expertise" from other state agencies and possibly the federal government

Balderas says there are various funds and operations he's very concerned about within the city of Sunland Park, but declined to specify which departments have raised red flags.

Balderas tells the Las Cruces-Sun News ( ) that his team will be expanding the probe to review all city departments inside the troubled border city that has seen three officials arrested in connection to an extortion plot aimed at secretly taping a mayoral candidate getting a lap dance.
