Baby Camel Born At ABQ Zoo

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Albuquerque Biopark Zoo has announced the birth of Kix, a baby male Bactrian camel.

Officials said Kix was born last week to Betty, a Bactrian camel who has been at the zoo for 13 years, and father, Wilson, who has been at the zoo for 16 years.

Bactrian camels, though common in captivity, are endangered in the wild. There are fewer than 1,000 surviving wild camels.

Bactrian camels have two humps.

Zoo officials say Kix and Betty can be seen for several hours each day in the camel exhibit near the elephants.
