Backlot Planned Near Las Cruces Airport

Rep. Jeff Steinborn helped allocate about half a million dollars for a new backlot to be built on the outskirts of Las Cruces.

“What we have found is that other places that recruit the film industry… have film infrastructure…that the industry needs… back lots and soundstages,” said Rep. Steinborn.

The back lot is planned for an area west of the Las Cruces Airport, on the Corralitos Ranch.

“Close to the Sleeping Lady Hills and the Sierras de las Uvas Mountains,” said Rep. Steinborn.

Steinborn says he hopes the back lot is ready for construction in roughly 8 months after the city and state have worked out the details of the more than half million he says he hopes the back lot is a step for the area to take on a film friendly mentality

“When a film comes to Dona Ana County, there not gonna get caught up in red tape…have this town really accommodate the industry,” said Rep. Steinborn.
