New Mexico State Auditor Hector Balderas is making it official that he's running for the Democratic nomination for attorney general next year
Balderas' campaign sent out email announcements to political supporters Tuesday, saying he would bring a "watchdog mentality" to the attorney general's office.
Balderas is serving his second term as state auditor. He was first elected in 2006. Balderas ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate last year.
Former Public Regulation Commissioner Jason Marks also plans to run for attorney general. There will be no incumbent in the race because Democrat Gary King is term-limited and is a candidate for governor in 2014.
Balderas said he would formally kick off his campaign in the fall.
