Beer Names For New NM Monument

What better way to celebrate New Mexico's new national monument than with pale ale?

President Barack Obama this week designated a sweeping expanse of sagebrush, grasslands and volcanic cones near the New Mexico-Colorado border as the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument.

Knowing the president is a fan of craft beer, the brew masters at Taos Mesa Brewing sent a few bottles of their special Rio Grande del Norte beer to Washington, D.C. It was also served Saturday during a celebration in Taos.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar was among the dignitaries on hand. He says he has one of the bottles sitting on his office credenza. He described it as beautiful, the label depicting the Rio Grande Gorge and the surrounding mountains.

Salazar says he plans to pick up another six pack to take back to the president.
