New Mexico – Republican gubernatorial candidate Susana Martinez tapped national GOP donors and oil and natural gas interests for a big fundraising boost in her race against Democrat Diane Denish.
Martinez reported Tuesday that she collected $2 million in contributions during the past 10 weeks, including $500,000 from the Republican Governors' Association.
Two donors to national Republican and conservative causes made large contributions: $200,000 from Foster Friess, an investor from Jackson, Wyo., and $100,000 from B. Wayne Hughes Jr., who operates a commercial real estate company in Malibu, Calif.
Oil and gas interests contributed at least $220,000 to Martinez. Included was $50,000 from Devon Energy, an Oklahoma City-based oil and natural gas company.
Denish has raised nearly $796,000 since late June.
