New Mexico – Teenagers under 18 could no longer use tanning beds under a measure pending in the Legislature.
Proponents say the restrictions would protect teenagers from cancer risks.
Democratic Sens. Mary Jane Garcia, Cynthia Nava and Dede Feldman introduced a bill Monday to make it a misdemeanor for tanning salons to allow younger teens to use a tanning device.
Last year, a panel of advisers to the Food and Drug Administration suggested more controls on tanning beds, ranging from parental consent forms to a potential ban for those under 18.

The tanning ban bill is SB430.
