Bill Would Name LC Courthouse After Mechem
By KRWG News And Partners
Congressman Steve Pearce is trying again to have the federal courthouse in Las Cruces named in honor of former New Mexico Gov. Ed Mechem.
Pearce on Thursday introduced legislation that reprises a bill that made it as far as being approved by the U.S. House last year.
Mechem died in 2002 at age 90.
A Republican and an Alamogordo native, Mechem served as New Mexico's governor during the 1950s.
Mechem then served two years in the U.S. Senate in the early 1960s. He later served as a federal judge.
