Bingaman Announces Grant To Inspect Vehicles From Mexico

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman has announced that the New Mexico Department of Public Safety has been awarded a $1.13 million grant to ensure that commercial vehicles crossing into the United States from Mexico meet regulations and safety standards.

Funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and will make it possible for the State of New Mexico to conduct inspections of foreign and international commercial motor vehicles and drivers operating on the border as a result of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

“This funding will help keep our roads safe by ensuring commercial trucks and their drivers crossing in from Mexico meet the required safety standards,” Bingaman said.
