Bingaman Says Another Federal Stimulus Is Unlikely

By KRWG News

New Mexico – U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman says Congress has done all it intends to do to help states and cities with stimulus funds.

The Albuquerque Journal reported in a copyright story Wednesday that the New Mexico Democrat says there won't be any more bailouts.

New Mexico school districts, counties, cities and the state have received stimulus money for everything from keeping teachers to doing road projects as the faltering economy led to plunging local revenues.

Bingaman says that regardless of the outcome of this fall's congressional elections, another round of stimulus money is unlikely.

Santa Fe Democratic Rep. Luciano "Lucky" Varela who chairs the Legislative Finance Committee says state lawmakers already are planning for a difficult next year in matching state revenue to spending.
