Block Documents To Remain Secret

By KRWG News

New Mexico – A House panel has decided against waging a legal fight with Attorney General Gary King over the Legislature's subpoena power and whether he had to turn over documents from an investigation of former Public Regulation Commissioner Jerome Block Jr.

King asked a court last month to allow him to withhold some documents that were subpoenaed for a subcommittee considering Block's possible impeachment.

The subcommittee decided Friday not to challenge King in court because Block has resigned and pleaded guilty to felonies. The impeachment investigation has been halted.

King released some documents, but contended that disclosing others would hurt the attorney general's ability to conduct future criminal investigations or were confidential attorney work materials prepared in anticipation of litigation.

The legislative subpoena sought King's complete investigative file about Block.
