The body of a 28-year-old Las Cruces man missing since April 17 was located and positively identified as that of Jesse Robert Garcia.
Garcia’s body was located May 29 in an undeveloped desert area east of Las Cruces. The body, unidentifiable at the time, was located by a hiker who reported the finding to law enforcement.
The remains were sent to the medical investigator’s office for positive identification which was made on June 2. Garcia’s next of kin have since been notified.
Garcia was last seen by relatives on the morning of Sunday, April 17. He was last known to be staying at a residence near the area of Cortez Drive and Davis Road on the city’s East Mesa.
The investigation into the cause of Garcia’s death is still ongoing.
