Border apprehensions down 36 percent, says CBP

KRWG News – EL PASO, Texas (krwg) U.S. Customs and Border Protection says 2010 illegal immigrants captures fell by 36 percent from the previous year to more than 463,000.

In its annual report issued Wednesday, CBP says the 2010 border apprehensions amount to a third of what they were at their peak. In 2005, Border Patrol detained 1,189,000 illegal immigrants.

CPB also says that in 2010, it seized just over 2,000 tons of narcotics. Scott A. Luck is the new chief patrol agent for CBP's El Paso sector. He says the figures indicate the agency is "making great strides in securing our borders."

In the El Paso sector, including the New Mexican and far west Texan frontier with Mexico, the Border Patrol detained 12,251 undocumented aliens in 2010, 90 percent less than in 2006.
