Border Bridge Closed For Hours; Man Charged In Bomb Hoax
EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Authorities say a 73-year-old man has been arrested for trying to enter the United States with an object designed to look like a bomb.
The incident closed down an El Paso border crossing for four hours.
Customs and Border Protection spokesman Roger Maier says agents spotted a rectangular item with cables sticking from it attached to a cellphone in a pickup truck at the Bridge of the Americas between El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, on Tuesday.
El Paso police say they arrested Juarez resident David Huebner and booked him into the El Paso County Jail on a bomb hoax charge. Jail records show he remained jailed Wednesday with bond set at $500. No attorney is listed on his online jail record.
Police have released no information on Huebner's nationality.
