Border Issues Lecture Next Week In Las Cruces

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – New Mexico State University's Center for Latin American and Border Studies will provide the campus and community with a different perspective on the violence taking place in today's borderlands in a lecture by Mexican politician Manuel Espino and associate professor of government Jose Z. Garcia, at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 13 at the Nason House on the NMSU campus.

Espino will be presenting his book, "La Guerra Injusta de Ciudad Juarez (The Unjust War in Ciudad Juarez)." Garcia will add commentary on the book.

Espino has been a two-time Mexican congressional representative, president of the Mexico's National Action Party (PAN), secretary general of the National Executive Committee of the PAN, Secretary General of PAN for the Chihuahua state and secretary general of the Municipal Committee of Ciudad Juarez. He also has been president of the Asociacion de Partidos Cristiano Democratas de Latinoamerica.

Garcia is currently the secretary of higher education for the State of New Mexico

"We have the opportunity to hear the position of both a prominent Mexican politician who has been directly involved at both the national and regional level with the most important issues that affect Mexican society, and who has personally been affected by the violence, as well as a prominent political scientist with expertise on the borderlands," CLABS Interim Director Inigo Garcia-Bryce said.

The lecture is free and open to the public. NMSU's Nason House is located at 1200 University Ave., directly across from FedEx Office.
