Border Patrol Arrests Convicted Murderer
Lordsburg – U.S. Border Patrol agents in New Mexico arrested a convicted murderer Monday near mile marker 23 on Hidalgo County Rd., located 23 miles south of Animas, New Mexico.
Agents from the Lordsburg, New Mexico Station encountered 59-year-old Manuel Diaz-Marquez during routine patrol operations. Diaz-Marquez who is a citizen of Mexico was taken into custody and transported to the Lordsburg, New Mexico Border Patrol Station for processing.
Diaz-Marquez was processed through the Automated Integrated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS). IAFIS revealed that Diaz-Marquez was previously deported as an aggravated felon.
Diaz-Marquez had a conviction for second degree murder out of Gila County, Arizona. Diaz-Marquez was sentenced to five years in prison and fined approximately $31,000 for the second-degree murder charge.
Diaz-Marquez was previously removed from the United States in November of 2009. Diaz-Marquez was processed for Reinstatement of Prior Order of Removal and will be prosecuted as an Aggravated Felon. Records also indicated that at the time of his conviction, Diaz-Marquez was a Lawfully Admitted Permanent Alien.
