Border Patrol Arrests Four Mexican Police Officers

The U.S. Border Patrol says it had arrested four Mexican police officers who mistakenly crossed the border into Texas while searching for a man who had been shot in the leg.

Border Patrol spokesman Agent Ramiro Cordero says U.S. agents found the wounded man on June 5 near a Texas farm not far from the Mexican border. Four other armed men were arrested when they crossed the border.

Cordero says these men turned out to be Chihuahua state police officers who had mistakenly crossed into the United States while looking for the gunshot victim. Cordero says the officers were returned to Mexico two days later.

It is not uncommon for Mexican law enforcement authorities to be briefly detained by U.S. Border Patrol agents.
