Border Patrol Finds Missing NM Woman

El Paso – A 52-year-old woman missing from her northern New Mexico home was located by CBP/Border Patrol Agents in Fabens, Texas.

A U.S. Border Patrol Agent from Fabens was performing routine patrol duties when he encountered what appeared to be a stranded vehicle on the side of Interstate I-10. The agent stopped to perform a traffic check on the vehicle when he observed a person inside the car. The sole occupant of the vehicle was an elderly woman who appeared confused and disoriented. The Agent interviewed the elderly woman and noticed that she did not appear to be injured or in distress.

A record checks on the woman revealed that she was a missing person out of Chimayo, NM. The alert further stated that the woman was mentally impaired and suffers from schizophrenia. The identity of the woman was confirmed through the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. New Mexico State Police in Espanola, New Mexico were notified of the missing person alert. State Police verified the alert and took custody of the woman and is currently in the process of reuniting her with her loved ones.
