Branigan Library Renews Agreement With Friends Group

Thomas Branigan Memorial Library (TBML) announces a contractual agreement with the Friends of TBML (Friends) has been reached, which provides for the Friends to continue tovolunteer their time and resources to help provide high quality library services, books, and materials for the Library.

The Friends group is composed of volunteers who raise money through memberships and book sales to fund many important services at Branigan Library including summer reading programs, cultural programs, library equipment and facility improvements.  In the past 10 years, the Friends have generously donated more than $100,000 to TBML.

Library Administrator Lynette Schurdevin says, “I am thrilled that our relationship with the Friends carries on.  With continuing limitations on budgets and the increasing cost of books, periodicals and other resources, the Friends’ contributions allow us to make important and imaginative acquisitions to better serve the citizens of Las Cruces.”

“Books and More,” the bookstore formerly operated by the Friends and located in the Library, closed in January 2013.  It was a major fundraising outlet and place for people to buy great books at discounted prices.    However, Friends of TBML President Don Behnke adds, “We are exploring other fundraising mechanisms and hope to launch a major fundraising drive later this year.  We know our financial support is appreciated by the Library and community because visits to the library and borrowing library items are increasing yearly."

Visit the library to pick up an application to join the Friends of TBML or to make a donation. For more information go to library.las-cruces.org or call 575-528-4000.
